Why Helping Others Can Make YOU Happy

Not all heroes wear capes. They often go about their charitable doings with no expectations of anything in return.

But why are so many people so keen to help others? Why do they? What ’s in it for them?

This is what this segment is all about.

1: Helping others gives us a sense of purpose

Living your life without a sense of purpose is akin to you traveling without a compass or a destination in mind.

Sure, it may sound exciting at first, but sooner or later, you’ll eventually get tired of it all and start wondering why exactly were you placed on this earth.

Your purpose can be any number of things, but helping others is a good start.

Why? Because you can see how many people who you’ve been there for; how many lives you’ve touched.

It doesn’t take much to start helping someone. You just need the heart, the willingness and the patience to share your time, skills and perhaps your money to get started.

2: You feel good about yourself

When you help others, you’re also helping yourself and your self-esteem.

You start feeling like you’re finally good at something. You quite literally feel like a million bucks. Your confidence rises, as you make decisions about others not just about you.

3: Forming meaningful relationships

When you help others, there's that immediate bond.

This is especially true in situations where your help can mean the difference between someone’s success or failure, or even life or death.

The people you help will feel indebted to you.

If you want your circle of positivity to grow, ask them to pay it forward by helping others.

Be aware, however

In fact, some people will want to continue leeching off of you.

When that happens, cut ties with them and go help others who’ll be more appreciative.

4: Helps you reflect on your blessings

When you’re out helping others, you’re able to take a look at yourself and your own situation from other people’s perspectives.

You’ll realize how  fortunate you are to be able to help. A realization that’ll help you stay grounded and with utter humility.
